Experience South Tyrol, from its most rustic and traditional side in fact – you can do this with your hosts Sepp and Maria. As besides Sepp's work at the hotel he also runs the Messner farm where he grew up and the Messner Hütte mountain farm on the Pidig Alm, where he works in the fields, among other things.
As a guest you are welcome to watch him do this or join in – you will find out everything about farm life in the old days. You can beat "Schlacka" in the butter churn on the mountain pasture, bake bread, taste cheese, in short you can experience South Tyrol up close.
Farming families used to live a frugal life. They prayed before meals and everyone had their own cutlery. They all ate out of the large pan in the middle of the table and there was "Muiss", "Schlutzkrapfen", "Knödel", "Milchplente" or "Brennsuppe" on offer. Religion and family solidarity were very important.
